Hope you can join us to look for migrating passerines and waterfowl along with resident and lingering summer birds. We’ll walk by marshland, open water, grassy areas, and wooded sections. On our mid-September bird walk here last year, the group tallied 47 species, from waterfowl and waders to warblers and raptures. Full eBird Checklist.
We’ll meet in the parking lot for the South Suburban Humane Society facility at 21800 Central Avenue. Map.
The bird hike is on a paved path. There’s a porta potty where the trail crosses Ridgeland Ave; however, the walk will not go that far west.
The bird walk is free and open to everyone. New birders are welcome! No registration required.

- Masks are optional for fully vaccinated participants. This could change if state or county COVID safety protection requirements change by the event date, e.g., masks become required for fully vaccinated people at an outdoor event.
- We request that anyone who is not fully vaccinated wear a face mask covering both nose and mouth
- If you are feeling ill or have any symptoms of COVID or have been exposed to anyone who has COVID, please play it safe for everyone involved and do not attend.
